APPLICATION
Compressors for Green Hydrogen from Electrolysers
The electrolyser delivers at a few bar — every downstream use needs compression first
Typical electrolyser outlet: near-atmospheric hydrogen, saturated and warm, boosted to 20–30 bar(a) for drying, storage or pipeline injection.
A typical duty profile
| Gas | Hydrogen (H2) |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 1000 Nm³/h |
| Suction pressure | 1.013 bar(a) |
| Discharge pressure | 30 bar(a) |
| Suction temperature | 20 °C |
| Oil-free required | Yes |
| ATEX / hazardous area | Yes |
| Contamination | none |
| Duty | continuous |
What the tool says on this profile
The tool's answer on this profile: Diaphragm Compressor (hydraulically actuated), with 1 alternate family in play. Duty as derived by the engine: 1000 Nm³/h, 1.0 bar(a) → 30.0 bar(a), overall pressure ratio 29.6.
Computed at build time by the same engine the tool runs — this page and the selector cannot disagree. Your duty differs from the profile? Run your own numbers below.
What to watch
- The electrolyser's outlet pressure sets the whole compression duty — atmospheric-outlet alkaline units and 30-bar PEM units are different machine problems.
- Wet gas at suction: expect a knock-out drum and check the gas's water content before sizing.
- Oil-free is the default expectation on green-hydrogen tenders.
