A Coke-Oven Gas Plant in Henan: 89,000 t/y of LNG, and a Reciprocating Compression Unit That Runs Ahead of the Purification Train

On 14 September 2026 the Pingdingshan Ecology and Environment Bureau approved the environmental impact report for a coke-oven gas utilisation plant in Ruzhou, Henan: RMB 593 million, 88,900 t/y of LNG, built alongside an existing coking plant rated at 1.2 million t/y.

Facts

The project. 河南平煤神马汝丰炭材料科技有限公司 (Henan Pingmei Shenma Rufeng Carbon Materials Co., Ltd.), Ruzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone, Pingdingshan, Henan. Total investment RMB 593 million. Product: LNG at 88,900 t/y. Feed is the company's own coke-oven gas, piped to the LNG line. The process train. Pretreatment (atomising spray, then a loose-fibre bed for demisting and dust removal) → compression unit, reciprocating compressors → purification (tar and naphthalene removal, ammonia washing, coarse desulphurisation, coarse purification, pre-hydrogenation, first-stage hydrogenation, first-stage fine desulphurisation, second-stage hydrogenation, second-stage fine desulphurisation) → methanation (three-stage adiabatic recycle) → cryogenic separation (mixed refrigerant plus nitrogen recycle refrigeration), with LNG storage, a nitrogen plant and a loading station. What recirculates. Tail gas from the cryogenic unit's regeneration step returns to the existing coking plant as replacement coke-oven gas. Boil-off gas from the LNG tank and the loading system goes back into the cryogenic unit for recovery. A flare handles non-normal conditions. The same process, already running. 中集安瑞科控股有限公司 (CIMC Enric, 3899.HK) records its Guizhou Liupanshui steel-coking integration project as commissioned at the end of June 2026, producing about 147,000 t/y of LNG and 24 million standard cubic metres a year of high-purity hydrogen at full output. The company's interim report puts three commissioned steel-coking integration projects at a combined 420,000 t/y of LNG, 80,000 t/y of blue ammonia and 48 million standard cubic metres a year of high-purity hydrogen, and records the signing of its first overseas project of this type, with Indonesia's Tsingshan group. The notice does not state the number of compressors, their pressure ratio, discharge pressure, flow, or the compressor supplier. It does not give the gas composition beyond the contaminants the purification train is designed to remove, and it does not give the inlet pressure at which the coke-oven gas reaches the compression unit.
